The above-ground biomass of the Argyrocytisus Battandieri Maire in the Moroccan tabular Middle Atlas: the example of the Azrou and Sidi M'guild forests Volume 12, issue 4, Décembre 2001

In the Moroccan tabular Middle Atlas, the above-ground biomass of Argyrocytisus battandieri Maire was determined based on dendrometric and weight data from 251 shrubs, chosen in circular ground plots, and sampled in a randomly stratified design. The shrubs were stratified into classes of shoots with similar basal diameters and foliage densities. Out of each class, two shoots were sampled to determine the above-ground biomass. Multiple regression was applied to these data in order to find estimates for the wood and leaf biomasses in this species. The analysis of these data shows that: - The best estimate for the dry biomasses is a combination of the shoots count, the average height and the average diameter of the shrub. - The biomass data are best fitted by allometric models. - The total dry biomass of Argyrocytisus battandieri is 2.196 t/ha and comprises 1.979 t/ha of wood and 0.217 t/ha of leaves.
