Several case studies on the « heat stress » on man (French legionnaires in Djibouti, pilgrims in Mecca), help to determine the conditions that facilitates this acute phenomenon, which is very severe and often leads to death. The ambiant temperature is not the only cause, the vapor concentration and the athmospheric still being two determinant factors. The conditions in which men can become more resistant to heat are controversial, and there seem to be no genetic « traits » that can show a definitive advantage of one race facing this environmental factor.
