The far transport and falls of Saharan dusts are well-known, but fewly-known their desert production and source areas. Field works on test areas associated with laboratory experimentations have improved the understanding of the previous substrata weathering and production/mobilization processes of fine particles (particularly by reddish sand-sheet and comminution). From these, a classification of the substrata susceptibility to produce fine particles has been established then combined by computer with available informations about desert wind in order to draw by computer mapping the location and hierarchical classification of the dust source-areas in central and northern Sahara.
