The study of the available water capacities of sand-clayey material mixtures in laboratory conditions showed that upgrading sandy soils by clay addition increased their available water capacities for crops. This improvement is proportional to the rate of the amendment as well as to the available water capacities of raw materials. Hence, the knowledge of the rate of amendment (T) and the available water capacities of clayey material (RU a) and sand (RUs), in weight basis, enables the accurate prediction of the available water capacity of the mixed soil (RU m) according to the following equations. For clay materials with high available water capacity : RU m= 1.3403 RU s + 0.0066 (T.RU a) (r 2 = 0.98). For clay materials with low available water capacity : RU m= 0.9845 RU s + 0.0135 (T.RU a) (r 2 = 0.99).
