Children conceived by assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have an increased risk of adverse effects and diseases. It is still unresolved whether the ART procedures or infertility/subfertility status of the parents might explained some of these changes. The hypothesis is that ART procedures themselves can induce adverse epigenetic effects, especially because they take place at times when maximal epigenetic reprogramming is occurring, including during female gametogenesis and after fertilization. In this manuscript we will present the main results of the studies assessing the epigenetic impact after oocyte vitrification.
