PICCline and its complications

Sang Thrombose Vaisseaux. Volume 24, Number 2, 81-5, Février 2012, Mini-revue

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Cyril Muller, Jean Izaaryene, Claire Falque, Jean-Michel Bartoli, Vincent Vidal

Summary : The PICCline has improved the management of patients requiring intravenous therapy of “average” duration. It represents a safe and effective alternative to conventional central venous catheters with a technical success close to 100 %. This is a central venous line inserted peripherally, very well tolerated by patients with complications which are mainly occlusion, infection and venous thrombosis of the catheter. These complications are common to other central venous access devices and can be prevented by a better understanding of the material and its use.

Keywords : central catheter, complication, peripherally inserted central catheter
