Hydrodynamic impact on the distal pollution of access devices

Sang Thrombose Vaisseaux. Volume 24, Number 1, 19-22, Janvier 2012, Mini-revue

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Gérard Guiffant, Patrice Flaud, Jacques Merckx

Summary : The insertion of a central venous catheter or peripheral pre-connected catheter may require remodeling of the catheter to adapt to the patient's morphology. The authors show that the form given to the catheter tip has an impact on the surrounding blood flow and may facilitate local pollution of the catheter extremity predisposing to deposit or obstruction.

Keywords : central catheter, peripheral catheters, occlusion, thrombosis, trimming, beveled cutting, open-ended catheter
