Molecular marker of cardiovascular risk

Sang Thrombose Vaisseaux. Volume 22, Number 4, 187-94, avril 2010, Mini-revue

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Florence Pinet

Summary : Discovery of biomarkers is important for determining new mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases and for finding new therapeutic targets. Emerging global analysis (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic) ismaking possible the unbiased characterization of variations in genes, RNA, proteins and metabolites that are associated with disease conditions. Genome-wide association studies require large cohorts of patients. Some studies are limited by the availability of cardiac tissue. Several new promising approaches have been investigated recently such as epigenetic regulation and the study of microRNAs which have been detected in plasma. Proteomic and metabolomic technologies are complementary approaches. The newly discovered biomarkers, when combined with existing biochemical markers and clinical phenotypes will contribute to the development of individualized medication.

Keywords : plasma biomarker, proteomic, microRNA, metabolite, GWA
