Summary : Occlusion pulsed flushing of a vascular access is the most important complication of vascular access. Flushing is often advised to restore patency or prevent chemical or protein accumulation in the lumen. However no preventitive regimen has been universally agreed. The aim of this work was to compare methods for maintaining the patency intravenous lines: continuous perfusion, versus continuous or intermittent flushing. Hydrodynamic factors have a determinant prophylactic effect on the efficiency of flushing. Intermittent flow (pulsatil flushing) removes the majority of deposits and thereby prevents occlusion and catheter-related infections. |
