Summary : One of the fundamental differences between conventional surgical treatment and the use of endoprotheses in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm is the central role of the imaging methods. At all stages of endovascular treatment, from patient referral to postoperative monitoring, including the choice or conception of the endoprosthesis, the utmot precision concerning the anatomical characteristics of the aneurysm is required. Spiral angio-CT scan is now recognised as the best diagnostic tool. Its power of resolution and the possibility of 3D reconstruction have resulted in the reduction in the number of arteriographies performed, which limits their practice to those patients in whom there is a suspicion of severe occlusive lesions and/or distal disease of visceral arteries and to those with associated severe obliterating ilio-femoral arterial disease. |
