Summary : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a three-dimensional, non-invasive imaging modality providing high resolution cardiac images. MRI provides accurate evaluation of left ventricular function and regional contractility. Myocardial perfusion imaging and late contrast-enhancement of myocardial signal are the most simple and rapid methods for the detection of myocardial ischemia and viability. Stress MRI can be used on a routine basis, with higher diagnostic values compared to stress echocardiography. Moreover, recent technical developments have led to accurate visualization of coronary arteries. These features make MRI the most comprehensive diagnostic method for the evaluation of coronary heart disease and its consequences. |
