Summary : Preeclampsia is still a severe disease with high maternal and\\or fetal mortality and morbidity rates. Its pathophysiology remains unclear and seems to be multifactorial. Numerous theories have been proposed but the concept of placental ischaemia is widely accepted as the main mechanism. Various hypotheses have been studied such as fatty acids, immune maladaptation, genetic theory, inflammatory disease. All of these mechanisms lead to a general disturbance of vascular endothelium and to complications such as hypertension or oedema. The aetiology of this gestational disease remaining unknown, all the treatments routinely used are only symptomatic |
