Paediatrics : Palliative procedure, patients’right at the End-of-Life

Médecine thérapeutique / Pédiatrie. Volume 15, Number 1, 38-42, Janvier-Février-Mars 2012, Dossier

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Marcel-Louis Viallard

Summary : French law about patients’right at the End-of-Life introduce some notions like unreasonable obstinacy, obligation of collegially decision and respect of anticipated patient's instructions. Law says nothing about complex paediatric cases. The notion of human person's respect, with her vulnerability is questioned. Collegiality makes easier a shared work of reason and an ethical approach of the complex situation which is detailed. Taking care and unreasonable notions during a palliative procedure is introduced. An ethical reflexion about the notion of time in palliative medicine is proposed. Some specificity of paediatric palliative care are discussed.

Keywords : palliative procedure, paediatrics, patients’right, end-of- life
