Oocyte donation in France

Médecine Thérapeutique / médecine de la reproduction. Volume 9, Number 6, 407-9, Novembre-Décembre 2007, Revue

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Sophie Catteau-Jonard

Summary : Oocyte donation is a particular activity of reproductive medicine in order to resolve some cases of feminine infertility, especially premature ovarian failure. The investigation of the “Agence de la Biomédecine” realised in 2006 on the activity of 2005 permitted to recess 19 French centres. The new law (the 24 th of June, 2004) allows transferring embryos directly after the oocyte retrieving and improves results : in 2005, 32 % of pregnancy was reported after immediate transfer against 20 % after transfer of thawed embryos. However, the number of oocyte donors is cruelly insufficient and the centres have real difficulties to organize the activity of oocyte donation.

Keywords : oocyte donation, premature ovarian failure, Agence de la Biomédecine, donors’ penury
