Is anonymous and free gamete donation possible?

MT / médecine de la reproduction, gynécologie et endocrinologie. Volume 13, Number 3, 180-6, Juillet 2011, Mini-revue

Author(s) : Dominique Le Lannou

Summary : Gamete donation is a method now allowed to address the various forms of infertility. But if the goal is to recruit enough donors to support all the demands of infertile couples, the method of recruitment of these remains controversial, the end does not justify (all) ways. This literature review describes the different modes of recruitment of sperm donors or egg donors. The gratuitousness of the gift is a principle accepted by all but the notion of compensation may affect the altruistic motivation of donors of gametes. The ultimate meaning of gamete donation, helping an infertile couple to have a child, can only be fully realized in those who have already experienced the joy of being parents. Information is needed to motivate the gamete donors.

Keywords : infertility, gamete donation, gratuitousness, information
