Summary : Background: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is common in France, with severe complications and high cost. The aim of this study was to explore the knowledge and representations of the CVD patients about their disease and its treatments.
Method: Qualitative survey by semi-structured interviews with 13 people with CVI in general practice.
Results: The patients interviewed had little knowledge of their disease, seldom followed their treatments and did not seem to ask for additional information: they lived with this chronic disease as a minor problem.
Conclusion: The status of venous disease is paradoxical. Despite its frequency and possible complications, it seems neglected by patients who are not aware of the benefit of treatments. Representations by caregivers should be studied.
