Summary : Pharmacological treatment of type 2 diabetes is not primarily that of hyperglycemia. Intensive treatment of hyperglycemia is not the most efficient on mortality and can have serious side effects. The primary goal of therapy in these patients is not the reduction in HbA1c, but the management of other cardiovascular risk factors.
