Summary : Contraception is widely developed in France, 80 % on medical prescription. The pattern of “any pill” remains dominant. The adverse effects of oral contraceptives cannot be attributed to a type of pill rather than another. Oversights occur in social and emotional situations “at risk” that determine the contraceptive choice. The risk of thromboembolism is one of the most serious adverse effects, although rare, of the oral contraceptives. There are still many “misconceptions” about the IUD, which require significant efforts of communication, information and education of stakeholders, to enable each woman to choose her contraception.
