Summary : Nesiritide, a recombinant type B natriuretic peptid (BNP), is potentially an interesting exciting agent in the treatment of acute heart failure due to its pharmacological properties: dosedependant vasodilator effect, inhibition of renin-angiotensin system as well as sympathetic system, natriuretic properties. Its clinical development program in acute heart failure demonstrated clear efficacy regarding hemodynamics and congestive heart failure symptoms associated with acceptable tolerance. However, the superiority of nesiritide over nitrates remains poorly established and effects on morbidity/mortality criteria have not been studied yet. |
