Summary : Surrogacy is the implantation of an embryo in the uterus of a woman resulting from
in vitro fertilization of an embryo from a woman deprived of a uterus using the sperm from her husband. The “surrogate mother” bears and gives birth to the child born of this conception on behalf of those “intending” parents. French bioethics laws in 1994 and 2004 have banned surrogacy in France, which was debated during the parliamentary review of the law in 2011. The elements of the controversy are multiple, questioning the definition of the human lineage, the danger of exploitation of women's bodies, the physical and psychological risks they face, the interest of the child and the family group concerned, as well as risks of abuse due to possible illegal financial gain. |
