Summary : The psychiatrist Ludwig Binswanger opposes Heidegger's concept of “concern” as related to love and “we”. In the situation where we are concerned with the objects we use, rather signifies love without a practical preoccupation which concerns the other person. Love involves trust and suspends time, creates a safe haven, due to the presence of the person who is loved. The world itself can be experienced as one who loves and is loved, which is expressed in poetry. Love is therefore for Binswanger a “fundamental form” that structures the human being, and whose failure becomes the cause of madness. Care should therefore be based on this essential structure: pathology is a failure of “us” and its restoration is a task which will be the future challenge of the physician. |
