Schizophrenia and detention: possible angles of approach?

l'Information Psychiatrique. Volume 86, Number 2, 181-90, février 2010, À propos de…

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Michel David

Summary : Kurosawa’s film Rashomon rape scene is narrated in versions told by different protagonists. According to the role, places, interests, emotions and passions of one or the other versions differ. Nothing is “objective”. Schizophrenic disorders and detention may also be perceived based on the protagonist’s viewpoint. The historian, epidemiologist, the judge, the expert, prison staff, the psychiatric SMPR/DSP and sectors, the political and administrative staff may all be summoned before the bar to testify. Each person will swear to tell the truth. That which is only partially said or that which is impossible to say as words will be missing. What can one make of the responsible person who is made irresponsible or the irresponsible person who is made responsible? Will their voice be heard? Can these multiple insights help to better perceive changing evolution of concepts and alter our practical clinical approach?

Keywords : schizophrenia, psychiatric prison service, regional medical-psychological, psychiatric, hazard, penal liability, prisoner
