The Ain (Rhône-Alpes) Departmental Mobile Unit for Psychogerontology: a new prevention culture?

Summary : Hospitalization as a first-line response in dealing with a crisis related to aging is no longer sensible. The psychiatric mobile team for the elderly, in the Department of Ain (Rhône-Alps), is integrated in a gerontology network as an integral part of a prevention perspective. This interdisciplinary work combines the different professions in psychiatry, i.e. the somatic and the social aspects with direct interventions in the home of the suffering elderly person and on their environment. Personal thoughts on the daily functioning and clinical cases illustrate this new approach.

Keywords : aging, crisis, psychiatry, gerontology, interdisciplinary work, home
