Summary : In France, cannabis is the most widely consumed illegal substance. In 2005, 3.9 million French between the ages of 15 and 75 used the drug at least once during the year. Cannabis has been used since ancient times in medical pharmacopoeia for its antispasmodic and analgesic properties, accounting for the current perception of cannabis as a natural remedy. Studies have shown that cannabis is associated with a reduction in physical and mental health. The links between cannabis and psychotic disorders remain unclear. Cannabis is frequently consumed for its anxiolytic, psychostimulant or hallucinogenic properties. Recent research in imagery, neurobiology, neurophysiology and genetics, incriminate endocannabinoids more and more in the genesis of psychotic disorders. This article proposes to draw a parallel between psychotic disorders linked to the use of cannabis, schizophrenia and research results which may explain certain observed links. |
