Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Frédérique Debout

Summary : Professional insertion of schizophrenic patients: changes in ESATs (Establishments and services for help through work) and clinical consequences. In the last thirty years the idealistic image of work as a vector for well-being has been discredited. Whilst the professional insertion of psychiatric patients was based on the desire to stabilise their disorders and destigmatise mental disorders in our society, the reality of the workplace leads us now to question this wish to see patients enter work. Stemming from the “disalienation” movement in psychiatric hospitals and taking impetus from the birth of sector psychiatry, ESATs were created as protected work spaces, but they are currently suffering upheavals similar to those of the global work sector. The evolution of ESATs leads us nowadays to question their function of protecting patients suffering from mental disorders. From this double misgiving we will question the unconscious issues that can underlie the doctor-patient relationship and trigger the medical desire to see schizophrenic patients enter the ordinary workplace.

Keywords : work, counter-transference, desire, ambivalence, schizophrenia
