l'Information Psychiatrique. Volume 83, Number 5, 369-71, Mai 2007, Adoption

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Bernard Durand

Summary : The decision to adoptThe decision to adopt is the culmination of a long process which involves defending this decision in the face of designated professionals. And, although there are sometimes contra-indications to adoption, it is important to note that not all couples are required to explain how they intend to assume their parental function. The important thing is that this endorsing process should enable future adoptive parents to work through a process of parentification, the equivalent of a mental pregnancy, which helps prepare them to receive the child who is entrusted to them. Thereafter begins an active process involving joint construction of a life history by parents and adopted child, which will rewrite the child’s first experiences retrospectively and strengthen parents in their parenthood.

Keywords : desire for a child, adoption, parenthood, parentification, filiation
