l'Information Psychiatrique. Volume 82, Number 7, 559-64, Septembre 2006, Urgences

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Jacques Védrinne, Nicole Horassius Jarrié

Summary : Psychiatric emergencies under the microscope.Jacques Vedrinne proposes this review based on solid clinical experience. The « black box » of emergency work is examined in detail, from the “treatment for mental shock” sometimes necessary for the patient to the “psychic breathing” crucial for emergency psychiatrists. The author examines “over specialisation” in emergency work, liaison psychiatry and crisis centres through the magnifying glass of years of practice. Some new avenues are explored such as the need for intersector short-term centres – to bridge the gap between exacting emergency services and overcharged sectors –, or the integration of all health players: GP, psychiatrist, voluntary hotline workers, etc.

Keywords : emergency services, crisis, crisis centre, short-term therapy centre, emergency psychiatrists, reception centre, general hospitals, specialised hospitals
