The practice of buprenorphine prescriptions in closed environments: risks and requirements

l'Information Psychiatrique. Volume 81, Number 5, 441-4, Mai 2005, addictions, substitutions

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Jean-Luc Senninger

Summary : Buprenorphine (Subutex ®) as a substitute treatment for opiate addiction has proved its worth, but also its capacity for misuse. Prescription of this product in closed environments (enforced hospitalizations, units for difficult patients, penitentiary institutions…) means taking into account not only individuals who do not always adhere to this treatment, but also a confined environment with its rules and potential dysfunctions. The prescription of buprenorphine can then appear to be a treatment aimed at the institution rather than the patient, whilst at the same time being diabolized by this very institution.

Keywords : buprenorphine, substitute, detention, enclosed contexts, drug addiction
