Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : François Chapireau

Summary : Pathways of long stay psychiatric in-patients. At the end of 1998, the French national institute for statistics and economic studies (INSEE) surveyed a random sample of people living in French institutions, including specialized psychiatric hospitals. The same persons were interviewed again two years later. Three stages of the pathway are known: the place where the person lived before entering an institution, the type of institution where that person was met at the end of 1998, and where the person was at the end of the year 2000. This paper looks at the length of stay and at the outcome, as they relate to where the person lived before being admitted to a psychiatric hospital. It also investigates movements to and from psychiatric hospitals and other institutions, and shows changes over time for these movements.

Keywords : pathways, long stay patient, outcome institution
