Jeanne des Anges‘ hysterical possession

l'Information Psychiatrique. Volume 80, Number 1, 33-41, Janvier 2004, Encore ?

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Pascale Macary*

Summary : Current clinical study of the possession of Jeanne des Anges in the 17 th century presents a twofold interest: it supports the thesis that delirium does not always indicate a psychotic structure and provides some pointers for the clinical study of delirium sufferers, particularly in societies where religious traditions are still strong. The diagnosis of neurosis is based on the notion of repression, which must be differentiated from the notion of foreclosure underpinning psychotic structure.

Keywords : possession, hysteria, repression, foreclosure.
