Drug-induced liver injury, what's new?

Hépato-Gastro. Volume 18, Number 5, 480-4, Septembre-Octobre 2011, Séminaire SNFGE 2011

Résumé   Texte intégral

Author(s) : Michel Biour

Summary : From September 2010, 38 new drugs and 674 references have been included in Hepatox ®, a bibliographic database on drug-induced liver injury (DILI). DILI remains the main cause for drug withdrawal by health authorities. So recently, gemtozumab-ozogamicin, ketoconazole, sitaxentan and stavudine were withdrawn from the market due to liver injury. The summaries of product characteristics of nimesulide, nitrofurantoin and paracetamol were modified for reducing the occurrence of DILI. Agomelatin, dronedarone and oxaliplatin were suspected of DILI. Numerous drugs like antiepileptics induce hypersensitivity syndrome related to virus reactivation. This syndrome is frequently associated with liver injury. Reporting DILI to health authorities is essential for drug policy.

Keywords : pharmacovigilance, drug-induced liver injury, drug, toxicity
