Support care in digestive cancerology: best practise guidelines

Hépato-Gastro. Volume 17, 35-47, Prise en charge de la toxicité de la chimiothérapie anticancéreuse et soins de support en oncologie digestive, Mini-revue

Summary : Quality of life of patients with digestive cancer, whether or not they are undergoing chemotherapy, justifies best practise guidelines or even real recommandations for the prevention and the treatment of symptoms linked to the disease or to the treatment. This mainly concerns anorexia, lost of appetite, nausea and vomiting, constipation, bowel obstruction but also fatigue, pain, breathing difficulties and neuropsychic issues. Although the therapeutic arsenal is large, recommandations are still insufficient in some domains. The question of whether or not to pursue palliative chemotherapy will always remain difficult. It implies the implementation of consultation meetings whenever necessary as well as a good doctor/patient relationship.

Keywords : cancer, support care, palliative care, symptoms, treatment limitations
