Summary : The advent of anti-TNF therapy has dramatically changed the management of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). At the same time, use of the classic immunosuppressants, such as azathioprine and methotrexate, has greatly expanded. Their pharmacology and side effects are better understood. However, this therapeutic armamentum remains limited and it is unlikely that any new molecules will be at our disposal in the coming years. We will therefore have to make the best use of the available treatments. In this review, we will discuss how to use immunomodulators in the treatment of IBD. |
Keywords : Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, azathioprine, methotrexate, infliximab, adalimumab, certolizumab pegol. |
