Summary : Plasma-derived products are used to compensate constitutional or acquired deficiency of some plasma proteins. The development of screening assays for virological safety of blood donations and of virus inactivation or elimination procedures guarantee a high level of security in plasma-derived products without altering their efficacy. The frequency of prescription of each product is variable, those prescribed for the treatment of bleeding-related diseases are more frequently used than those intended for treatment of thrombosis. This paper describes the means of attaining optimal safety in plasma-derived products as well as the various plasma-derived products used in France for treatment of bleeding-related diseases and thrombosis.

Keywords : plasma-derived products, bleeding-related, thrombosis, virological safety
