Benign infantile seizure syndromes complex. From classic to recent advances

Epilepsies. Volume 18, Number 1, 8-23, Janvier, Février, Mars 2006, Mise au point

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Yukio Fukuyama, Masako Sakauchi

Summary : The initial description by Fukuyama in 1963 and in Japanese of a short-lived seizure disorder in normal infants has been overlooked at the time, but in recent decades the chapter of benign seizures in infancy has been largely acknowledged, and this diagnosis is now frequently made in this age class. The authors discuss the diagnostic criteria, the course and treatment of the various entities described since, which are mainly based on the familial or non-familial occurrence of ictal manifestations, and on their possible association with a rotavirus diarrhea.

Keywords : benign infantile seizure, diarrhea, rotavirus
