Pangs of death in epilepsies

Epilepsies. Volume 14, Number 1, 17-22, Mars 2002, Articles originaux

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Gilbert Diebold

Summary : The author shows the importance of death anguish at any level in severe epilepsies. The image of death is like a ''ghost haunting'' which makes the treatement more difficult and is a hindrance to the patient's insertion in social life. Frequenthy this ''haunting'' is linked to a real death for which mourning has not been achieved. The author illustrates with several cases how a psychotherapic or even psychoanalytic work can change the psychological identification of the patient and, so, helps in synergy with medical or surgical treatement.

Keywords : epilepsies, anxiety, death.
