The Annual General Meeting of the European Journal of Dermatology was held as usual during the EADV congress, which this year took place in Berlin, Germany.

The journal continues to improve in quality and notoriety. We are pleased to be able to report that the Impact Factor has increased from 1.294 (2007) to 1.968 (2008), with the EJD ranking going up from 25th to 18th in a total of 43 dermatology journals.

We have seen an increase of over 60% in the number of papers submitted in the past two years, from 345 (2007) to 564 (2009), with papers coming from countries as far apart as Pakistan, Ireland, Nigeria, Libya and Venezuela, although most papers continue to come from the larger European countries, Japan, Turkey and China.

As reported last year [1], the “correspondence” rubric has enabled us to publish an increasing number of papers – a total of 149 in 2009. However, over 50% of the correspondence and 70% of the clinical and investigative reports submitted are currently rejected, with only the best and most interesting papers accepted. The overall rejection rate is ~ 60%.

After an important re-shuffle of the Board last year, this year we have had fewer changes. Jean Kanitakis has become a co-editor, reflecting his increasing help with the editorial work taking place in the Lyon office. Christian Géraut has joined the Board as “GERDA editor”. GERDA is the French study and research group on contact dermatitis, their papers are currently published in French but are now being translated into English for the EJD. We extend our grateful thanks for his work for the EJD and best wishes to Alain Claudy, one of the founding members of the EJD, who has resigned from the Board on his retirement.

The EJD Book Series had three new volumes in 2009, which we encourage you to add to your libraries.

To all our readers and authors, the whole world over, I wish an active and productive 2010.Jean-François Nicolas
