Another year passes and it is with great pleasure that I can again report that it has been most successful for the European Journal of Dermatology. The journal has gone from strength to strength and for this we must particularly thank the co-editors who work so hard to attract and process articles. A special thank you this year goes to one of our founder members, Rudi Happle, who retires from his co-editor role to join the Honorary Board. We wish him a very happy retirement and hope he will continue to work just as hard for the EJD now that he has more free time ! A warm welcome is extended to Michael Hertl, who is taking over the running of the German co-editor's office.
At the recent Board Meeting in Florence, Italy, we were pleased to be able to report that the impact factor in 2003 showed an improvement of almost 20% over the figure for 2002. The number of article citations rose from 774 to 1000 during the same period. The journal continues to attract important papers from countries as diverse as the USA, Korea and Turkey as well as the countries of Europe. Advances in electronic communication have made submission and processing of articles ever more easy and rapid. An EJD electronic newsletter has been created this year and is being sent out to as many dermatologists as possible, informing them of the latest published articles. Access to previously published articles is also simpler on the John Libbey website, which includes all the EJD articles published from 1997 to the current issue.
To all our readers and authors, the whole world over, I wish an active and productive 2005.
