ARTICLE

Significant progress has been made in the basic understanding of the molecular and clinical pathology of organ specific diseases during the last century. To celebrate the entry into a new millennium, a new review section entitled "Millennium Dermatology" has been added to this issue of the European Journal of Dermatology. This section hopes to serve as a forum for reviewing recent progress in the different fields of medicine and biology that might have an impact on the future of dermatology in the 21st century by including contributions from leading scientific researchers. Identifying the molecular implications of such advances represents a major step towards understanding the future direction of basic and clinical research. Invited authors will review the recent progress in their fields, the problems that they have dealt with and finally the future they anticipate within their field. They will also discuss the feasibility of further transnational applications from the research laboratory to the clinic for improving our capacity in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of skin diseases. We hope that you will find these articles illuminating and that they will generate new ideas in the new millennium.
