Cutaneous macroglobulinemia: successful treatment with oral cyclophosphamide |

Summary : Specific skin manifestations of Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia have been rarely described. We now report a 68-year-old Japanese woman with Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia who first manifested specific cutaneous nodular lesions on both cheeks of her face. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that bone marrow cells and infiltrating cells in the skin lesions included CD19+, CD20+, CD21+, CD22+ and CD38+ cells, which reflect a continuum of B-cell differentiation. Although previous studies have reported that the response of Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia skin lesions with cellular infiltrates to systemic chemotherapy is poor, the skin lesions in this case have been treated successfully with systemic monochemotherapy, oral cyclophosphamide. |
