The cell division cycle and its regulation

Bulletin du Cancer. Volume 93, Number 4, 41-53, Numéro hors-série, Avril 2006, Formation SFC

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Laurent Meijer

Summary : The cell division cycle includes a series of events leading from one to two cells \; these events are successively the post-mitotic G1 phase, the DNA synthesis S phase, the G2 phase and the mitotic M phase, including itself a serie of morphological and biochemical steps. Numerous proteins are involved in the control of cell entry into and progression within the cell division cycle. Cyclin-dependent kinases are responsible for the phosphorylations required for the activation of the proteins in charge of cell cycle progression, but the role of phosphatases, of proteolysis, of nuclear translocations also appear critical. Numerous oncogenic alterations can involve cell cycle control and constitute potential therapeutic targets.

Keywords : DNA synthesis, mitosis, cyclin, cyclin-dependant kinase
