Chronic diseases are responsible for a growing share of worldwide morbidity and mortality. In France, they are mainly treated by general practitioners. Gradients of the distribution of chronic diseases among social classes were described, for some of them. We aimed to describe, in general practice, the relationship between some chronic diseases (tobacco addiction, alcohol abuse, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, respiratory diseases, and asthma) and some socioeconomic indicators.
In 2015, we carried out a descriptive cross-sectional study in 8 general practices in Aquitaine area (France). Volunteer patients filled in a questionnaire in the waiting room. We conducted a multivariable logistic regression analysis to estimate the relationship between the prevalence of chronic diseases and some socioeconomic indicators. This first article presents the background and the methods in our study.
