Numerous cancer patients do not respond to treatment. Chemotherapy can occasionally cause life-threatening toxic effects and is costly. Thus, there is a need to identify predictive biomarkers than can reliably select responders or non-responders. This paper presents recent examples of anticancer drugs for which markers of response have been identified. Therapeutic implications in terms of selection of patients are discussed.
