Since 1999, the TVT procedure has been performed to treat urinary incontinence at the Le Raincy-Montfermeil hospital. The aim of the study was to evaluate this treatment after 2 years of use and to assess post-operative acceptability of women who underwent TVT.
Twenty-seven women were included, 70% of them had a stress urinary incontinence. For 25 of 27 women, TVT was performed without additional treatment and was conducted under epidural anesthesia for 22 patients. No complication was recorded through surgery; however three minors problems were reported after surgery and in two cases the tape needed to be cut off owing to urinary retention. About 65% of women were seen after TVT, 65% of them were subjectively cured and 35% of patients developed de novo urge incontinence. Quality of life was dramatically improved, as symptoms of urinary incontinence disappeared (85.5%), physical capacities increased from 61.5 up to 77% and that both emotional status and quality of sleep were subsequently improved.
