The Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) present a high therapeutic indice. Nevertheless, the occurrence of hyponatremia induced by SSRIs, in the elderly should require some caution. We report the case of a mild, transient hyponatremia secondary to inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) in a 94-year old woman after five weeks of treatment with fluoxetine, at usual dosage and with a total fluoxetine plasma concentration in therapeutic range. This case is compared with the whole cases reports of hyponatremia associated with fluoxetine published in the literature.
