The development of oncologic chemotherapy dedicated to ambulatory patients calls for portable infusion devices, specified by the norm XP S 93-025. The Cytotoxic Drug Preparation Unit of Cochin Hospital uses such devices from the first day of treatment of ambulatory patients. At present time, the French administration have registered 6 different portable infusion devices. The choice to be made by users relies on technical, economical and practical criteria. In order to optimize the choice made by our Unit, we have carried out a survey to compare the 3 portable devices available in our Hospital: Easypump® (Braun), Infusor® (Baxter) et Ultraflow® (Fresenius). Our survey is based on a specific questionnaire for pharmaceutical staff, nurses and patients. The results obtained with pharmaceutical staff and nurses is not significantly different between the 3 devices. However, the results obtained with patients show that they significantly prefer the Easypump® Device. This survey shows how critical the patient's mind in the evaluation of a significant number of medical devices.
