Health technology assessment (HTA) is largely used to manage the introduction and diffusion of new health technologies. To help hospital decision-makers, several approaches of hospital-based HTA (HB-HTA) have emerged worldwide. The aim of this article was to present the different models of HB-HTA. Four models have been conceptualized: “ambassador” model, “mini-HTA” model, “internal committee” and “HTA unit”. However, these models are not mutually exclusive and can be combined within hospitals. HB-HTA activities have to be promoted in France. We think that hospital pharmacists have an essential role to play in the diffusion of the HB-HTA development.
