Software developed for monitoring nominative prescriptions in the Nantes University Hospital Volume 18, issue 1, Mars 1999

Authors

Computerized monitoring of nominative prescriptions was initiated by the Pharmacy Department of the Nantes University Hospital for three purposes : to allow precise recording of expensive drugs to ensure their correct use and provide information to physicians and pharmacists collaborating with the local drug committee ; to comply with French administrative recommendations concerning hospital use of antibiotics by providing more than simple budgetary management ; to provide information about the monitored drugs to members of the pharmaceutical team working both day and night. To achieve these goals, a computer program was developed on a Macintosh® 4400/160 computer using 4th-dimension software. This program allows nominative monitoring of drug prescriptions and deliveries, indicates the form in which the drug was supplied and records the exact dosages for each patient to meet requirements in pediatrics and nephrology. Stored data are exploitable directly or after transfer to other software.
