Doctor Féré (1852-1907): a life’s work from medicine to social sciences.Drawing from new sources, this article presents a biography of Charcot’s main secretary: Doctor Féré. Little known nowadays, Salpêtrière’s brilliant pupil was a renowned psychiatrist, criminologist and psychologist at the beginning of the III rd Republic. Of Norman origin, his reputation during the 1880s and 90s spread outside France to Anglo-Saxon countries.
