Author

This news is based on the following article: Chen K, Wolf K, Breitner S, et al. Two-way effect modifications of air pollution and air temperature on total natural and cardiovascular mortality in eight European urban areas. Environ Int 2018 ; 116 : 186-96. doi : 10.1016/j.envint.2018.04.021

Based on a vast European database and in-depth modeling, this work shows that heat increases the impact of air pollution on overall and cardiovascular mortality. At the same time, pollution increases the risk of death linked to exposure to cold and to heat.
